Dear Family & Friends,
It’s only been a few days but so much has happened.
We started our ride from Nova Scotia to Quebec. The first day’s ride was through remote lush green forests and some rides along the sea shore, rivers, and lakes. Still does not feel like spring but the weather is mostly dry and cool and the scenery is great, specially if you like riding in tunnels made of trees!
After a full days ride we stayed in Amersham, a nice small town. Lots of old buildings, big seats, and a great pub.
The next day we had a full days ride. We wanted to be close to Quebec so the next morning we could be there quickly with lots of time to sight see. We got an early start and it was cold but at least dry. We stopped for a late morning breakfast about 11am. When we left there was a few light sprinkles but we weren’t concerned. (We should have been!)
Within a hour it was absolutely pouring rain and I was getting concerned. We were riding through remote forests with no signs of people, very little traffic, maybe a car every 20 minutes, and worse of all no cell service! If we broke down we would be in big trouble!
We kept a careful pace and soldiered on. About four o’clock the rain finally stopped and we were seeing small towns again. On a motorcycle if you’re moving you dry out pretty quickly( except for your shoes which fill up with water). When we got within 30 minutes of the hotel we had reservations the sky opened up again and by the time we got to our hotel we were dripping wet again! The hotel we stayed at was called The Happy Place Hotel. It was old and a bit run down, and the rooms were very bare. Kind of reminded me of a prison cell. But it was cheap, reasonably clean, the heater worked, and the bed was comfy so all good.
The next day we got up early and it was foggy. We took off because we wanted to make Quebec City by noon so we had plenty of time to explore. By the time we got there the sky was bright blue and it was warm!
The Old Town section of Quebec is wonderful. If you want to visit France but don’t want to fly for 12 hours this as close as you can get! The still have buildings there built in the 16,17, and 18th century, all in French style. Just beautiful with lots of sights to see, art work, and a real French feel.
It’s interesting, in Nova Scotia everyone speaks English with no real accent. As we made our way to Quebec once in a while you would hear someone speaking French. Then as we got closer you start seeing signs in both English and French. By the time we got to Quebec all signs were just in French and everyone spoke French. Most spoke a little English but with a thick French accent.
I was hoping in Quebec I could find my favorite French dish, Cassolle, but Quebec is where poutine comes from and it’s every where, too bad.
Tomorrow we head to Montreal.
Hope you enjoy all the photos below.
